How to explore domain-level citation data and what to look for

What the Domains View Shows

The Domains view lists every website that has appeared as a citation source for the prompts you are tracking. Each row is a domain, and you can see how many citations and mentions it has generated across the date range you have selected.

This is where you start to understand the landscape of sources AI is drawing from in your category. Some of those sources will be your own site. Others will be competitors, publications, forums, or third-party directories.

Navigating the Domains View

Analysis Scope

The Analysis Scope filter controls whose domains appear in the table. There are three options:

  • Entire Market: Shows all domains appearing in your tracked prompt responses, regardless of brand.

  • Tracked Brands: Limits the view to your own brand and any competitor brands you have added to Cognizo.

  • Custom Site: Lets you enter one or more specific domains to isolate and compare.

Switching between these scopes is the fastest way to shift from a broad market view to a focused competitive comparison.

Citation Type Breakdown

For each domain, you can expand the Citation Type breakdown to see how its appearances are classified. This tells you whether a domain is showing up as a competitor-owned source, an earned mention, a social reference, or another category.

Prompts and Responses

Clicking into a domain now surfaces the prompts and responses connected to it. For any domain in the table, you can open the Prompts stack to see which of your tracked prompts triggered a citation from that domain, and open the Responses stack to see the specific AI-generated answers where it appeared.

Adding Domains to Your Watchlist

If you find a domain worth monitoring over time, you can add it to your Watchlist directly from this view. Use this for competitor domains you want to check on regularly, or for third-party sites that keep appearing in high-priority prompts.

What to Look For

High-volume competitor domains

If a competitor's domain has a significantly higher citation count than yours for the same set of prompts, that gap is worth understanding. Open the domain and check the connected prompts. What types of pages are being cited? Those details point toward the specific content work that could close the gap.

Unexpected third-party sources

Pay attention to domains that are neither yours nor a direct competitor. High-citation third-party sites such as industry publications, comparison platforms, or community forums can be valuable targets for contributed content, partnerships, or earned coverage. AI is already treating them as authorities in your space.

Earned citation patterns

If a domain is classified as Earned or Competitor Earned, that tells you AI is picking up on mentions of a brand within that source's content. If competitors are generating a lot of earned citations from publications you are not appearing in, that is a signal about where their broader PR and content strategy is working.

Note: The Domains view reflects the prompts and date range currently active in your filters. If a domain you expect to see is not appearing, check whether the relevant prompts are active and whether the date range is wide enough to capture recent data.
